Three Day Road: Entry 7

The Cree back then seems to have been in dire conditions. During the winter, where food were scarce, hunters ventured out into the woods with their family in order to find food to feed their young ones. But because most animals hibernate during winter, hunters would often fail to find food and there were times where cannibalism occurred. The people who ate human flesh were referred to as "windigo" by the Cree and were killed as soon as they were discovered. Going as far as eating your companion... life must have been very difficult back then for the Cree. What would you do if you were in a similar situation?

  1. I am very disgusted by these tales of cannibalism, but many people are just thriving to survive, feeding their family, much like the woman and her children in the book. They were forced to eat their dead husband in order to survive. It is truly sad that they had to resort to this.
